Sixty teams have entered into the various divisions of the Cork Darts Organisation leagues and tonight fifty-eight of those teams will have their first games of this new season 2012/13 at twenty-five venues around the city with a game to suit all darts lovers at a pub near them.
Seven teams will operate out of the Presidents A division league and the pick of the opening matches here is surely the meeting of the Joshua Tree and Brian Dillon’s at the Blarney Street venue.
Tower Bar will play host to the Anglers Sports Lounge at their base, while newly promoted the Gerald Griffin face the journey to Carrigaline to take on fellow promoted side Carrigaline GAA with the Shamrock Bar receiving a bye in this first series of matches in the Presidents A division league.
Twenty-four teams will make up the Gallows sponsored B division league with the Hollyhill Inn, Quinlan’s 2 and the Island Tavern 2 making their debut’s at this grade after their success at the lower C division last season.
There are a couple of relegated teams such as the Gallows 1 and Hennessy’s 1 who will, I am sure, make an impression during the season in this division, and I would not be altogether surprised if at least one of them bounced straight back to the A division.
The most competitive of the sections would seem to be section 3 where we have the Hollyhill Inn, Maple Leaf, Island Tavern 1, Gallows 1, Ma Dullea’s 1 and Quinlan’s 1 while section 2 would also be classed as a quite competitive section with the likes of Muskerry Arms, Cashman’s, Red Cove Inn, Joshua tree 2, Glenryan Tavern 1 and the High House 1 all fighting for two play-off spots.
Eighteen teams will compete in the Murphy’s Stout C division league which will include newly promoted sides from the junior league High House 2, Anglers Sports 2, and they will be joined by new entries into the league, City Bounds, Jack Fords and Kennedy’s all making this debut’s,or a return after many years absence.
Finally, its the very popular and very competitive junior league which this season will be made-up of eleven teams which in turn is made up of one section of six and one section of five teams.
The playing format for all of the above competitions will be as follows: A division will be played over three legs of 501 double-off while all other divisions will be played over three legs of 301 double-off, with all seven games to be played, and one point awarded for each game won.
Home player in each case to throw to the bull first, with nearest to bull throwing first for a scoring double, with loser of first leg throwing first in second leg, (Mugs away) and a further throw to the bull will be required if game is tied at one leg a-piece.
This coming Friday night at the Island Tavern the final of the Shandon View charity Leukaemia competition will be played featuring the Glenryan Tavern and the Gerald Griffin who both came through their respective semifinals convincingly.
Glenryan held a 4-3 first leg lead over the Local and they extended that to an aggregate 8-4 overall win while the Gerald Griffin held a 5-2 first leg lead and they ran up the first three games of their second leg meeting with the Gallows to run out 8-2 winners.
Both teams are asked to attend at the final venue at 9.30 on this coming Friday night.

Muskerry winners Thursday January 8 2015
The Muskerry Arms Bar came good big time recently when they captured two CDO league titles within seven days with the Cork Darts Organisation men’s Murphy Stout first division league title and the Murphy Stout junior league title both going to Blarney.
At the first division finals night played at the Gallows, the Muskerry Arms came through their semifinal against old foes the River Lane in a tough battle, before they went through by a 4-1 scoreline.
On board two the Gallows were involved in a titanic battle with Jack Fords, as they came from behind to eventually go through to the final on a 4-3 scoreline.
The final brought Muskerry Arms William Fouhy to the oche while in for the Gallows it was Billy Murphy on the throw, and it was Fouhy, who has been a model of consistency all season who took this opening game for the Muskerry arms in a 2-0 win after top hands of 95, 100, 100 and a 137 along with a double 11 and a double 20 in his winning legs seeing him home.
The lead however did not last vey long as Gallows number two on the night Ray Glynn was in top for in his 2-0 win over Hugh Finnerty, Glynn posting scores of 100 115 and 145 in his winning legs to then go on and stick double a 16 and a double 20 for the win.
Brendan Broderick was on the throw at number three for the Blarney team and with him was Gallows number three William Kannedy with Kennedy taking the opening leg from 60 with a 20 double 20 checkout after a top hand of 120 but Broderick hit back to square as he outscored Glynn in taking the second leg after he posted a maximum 180 to go out on a double 10.
A marvelous third and deciding leg then followed from both players who answered each other score for score, before Broderick just about edged it after his third 100 of the leg saw him then hit a double 10 for the win to see his side into a 2-1 lead.
Another player who has been on an extended run of fine form on the throw, Brian Kiely, was next man up for the Blarney side and along with him on the oche was Gallows player Niall O’Shea.
Kiely showed why he is in such top form with scores of 98, 100 and 125 helping him to take the first leg and he followed this with hands of 140, 140 and 85 to then pull off a double 20 to put the Muskerry within just the one more game of outright victory.
Muskerry then handed the task of taking this league title back to Blarney to Brendan McSweeney, however in there against McSweeney, intent on stopping him was Gallows number five Timmy Forde.
Both players were noticeably tense looking in this pivotal game, but it was McSweeney who just edged the opening leg with a double 7 but Forde hit back to level after posting top scores of 100 and 140 along with a double 16 checkout after McSweeney had hit a 171 and left himself with a double 8.
McSweeney then carried on where he had left off in the previous leg as scores of 100, 128 and a 134 saw him stick a double 20 to clinch the title for the Muskerry Arms.
The Murphy Stout man of the match award went to Brendan McSweeney of the Muskerry Arms.
The Muskerry Arms second squad took the CDO junior legue title played recently at the River Lane by virtue of there 4-3 win over the Local in the final, thus making it a unique double for the very popular Blarney premises
Muskerry Arms won the opening two games of this junior final with wins from Des Brady and John Daniel Goode against John Murphy and Jamie O’Connor, but the Local fought back to take games three and four with Garry O’Mahony and Sean Horgan getting the better of Terence O’Connor and Eamon Aherne.
Andrew Keating then put the Muskerry Arms 3-2 ahead with a win over John Paul Condon but it was level once again as Colm O’Leary defeated Garry O’Connor.
However it was the Muskerry Arms night as Paul Shine proved to be more consistent then his opponent Ken Price, in the seventh and final game to give his team the victory by 4-3.
Man of the match was John Daniel Goode of the Muskerry Arms.
The following is the first series of matches to be played in the Beamish cups on Monday next January 12.
