Is there light in the tunnel

Hello to all and hoping everyone is well and dealing in as much as is possible with this dreadful virus that is covid 19.

Some of you may have lost a relative or a close loved one to this virus which has racked all our communities over the past ten months and to you all I extend on behalf of the Cork Darts Organisation our heartfelt condolences on your loss.

Over the past ten months some well known darting friends have gone on to their eternal reward, John Marshall of the Gerald Griffin, Jason Long from the Island Tavern and a former Cork City individual champion, John O’Flynn who won the title in the 1966/67 season while playing for the Dew Drop Inn which was based in White Street, to their families the Cork Darts Organisation offers our deepest sympathy.

As you all may be aware, the roll out of the covid vaccine has begun which in time gives us hope of a return to some form of normality.

The latest news which seems to be emanating from our health information offices is that by summer there should be a 70 per/cent coverage of the population through the vaccination process.

We all who are involved in pub sports do really want/need to get back to the weekly darts nights and the social interaction that revolves around these get togethers.

Many of our teams members would be social darts players who only go to the pub on a once a week basis just to meet up with their fellow darts players and enjoy a competitive game of darts, be they playing at home or face an away fixture, nights such as the above were always so looked forward too.

Is it going to be the start of summer or is it the end of summer, or will it even be the end of this year before some semblance of normality can return to our lives.

unfortunately I cannot offer any answer to any of the above aforementioned as it would be purely speculation and unwarranted hopefulness on my behalf but there does seem to be a light in the tunnel.

To all our very supportive publicans who had to close their doors throughout this pandemic I really hope that you all can once more open your doors and invite your customers to partake of a game of darts on the oche in your pub.
